THE CAUSE OF THE MANGO TREE AND THE SEED
Will the atheists agree that there is a God?
You should ask the atheists, "Which came into being first, the mango
tree or the seed?" If it is the mango tree then a seed should be
there and if it is the seed than a tree should be there. Therefore,
beyond both, there is a Power which is the cause of everything. That
is God. As we progress in sadhana we will understand everything.
There is no meaning in unnecessary dispute.
The topic suddenly changed to the narration of her own experience
during Mother's sadhana period. The Mother continued,
In the old days Mother was not even able to say "Krishna." Body-
consciousness would be lost immediately. If concentration was not
gained in meditation I would angrily jump towards Devi's portrait
shouting at Her. I used to beat my head on the wall. But what to say
about other times! I would embrace Devi's picture with overflowing
love and crumble it into pieces. In those days, Mother would only
see Devi in whoever came. If I happened to see any good-looking
girls nicely dressed up, I would leap and jump out of bliss. I felt
all of them to be Devi.
About her spiritual children, the Mother said,
All the children have that kind of devotion. Children, if you see
someone who looks like Mother, don't you stand gazing at them? When
you are away from Mother, won't you cry if you see someone who has a
face which closely resembles Mother's? That devotion will help a
lot. If you stay away from Mother, you will be able to cry and call
to Mother. In however much an elevated state a disciple may be, he
will have a kind of selfishness when he comes in front of the Guru.
Children, don't you have the feeling that Mother should have more
love towards you than towards others?
At that time one brahmacharin returned who had gone out of the
ashram for some purpose. He had waited a long time at the bus stop
without being able to catch a bus. Having prostrated to the Mother,
he sat near her.
Son, haven't you gone?
I couldn't catch a bus. I waited nearly one hour.
Is it a brahmacharin who is saying this? Hasn't God given you good
health? Don't you have hands and legs? Can't you walk? If you had
walked during the time you waited for the bus, you could have
returned having accomplished the thing for which you went, is that
not so? Will the time be wasted if you chant your mantra while
walking? On the way, if the bus comes you can get in as well, is it
not? Hereafter, YOu children should not waste time waiting in the
bus stop. While you are standing there, people of different calibres
will come and you will talk with them. All that will be the cause
for creating new vasanas.
